Thoughts of Op.rah and God's Goodness!

It was 1986 and I was at the Army Post Office in Kirch-Goens, Germany when I got the tape. It was my first chance to see Oprah. I was so touched by the show. I looked so forward to those tapes and when I got back to the states I recorded the show daily and watched after work. For many years I didn't miss an episode. I learned a lot and felt she kept me company many times. The biggest thing I got from her was to keep a gratitude journal. I've kept one for many years. I've bought them as gifts and I've told people about keeping one. It has helped me, especially on those days when it seems so much is wrong and difficult. I'm thankful that I'm a thankful person :)) I've defended her more times than I can count and a few people have come back to say they hadn't yet seen in her what I saw from the beginning. I understand myself better because of things I've learned on the show. Everytime she gave something away I felt like I was giving and I love that feeling. She could not have chosen better words as her last words on her last show. It is what we should all strive for in what we do daily. The words were "To God be the glory". Anika's vanity plate says it. Thanks, Billie for sending the tapes to me. It meant so much and I will never forget your thoughtfulness. Thanks to everyone who sent me the letters that I sent to Oprah in my campaign to get Mattie on the show. We didn't make it, but it was a great try. I'm chatty today, my eyeballs are shiny and clean. :) I'm missing Tony. I love the family God gave me, a family that loves God and looks out for each other. I'm grateful.

Article on Cecily with California All-State High School Honors Choir

Nine members of the Crescenta Valley High School choirs were in Sacramento recently to sing in the American Choral Directors Association California All-State High School Honor Choirs. These singers auditioned in September, were chosen to sing with the Southern California Vocal Association Honor Choirs in November, and were then invited to sing in the All-State Honor Choirs.

They rehearsed in Sacramento for two and a half days before the Saturday, April 2 concert when they sang under the direction of esteemed choral directors Dr. Edith Copley (Northern Arizona University), Dr. Jameson Marvin (Harvard University), and Sigrid Johnson (St. Olaf College, Minnesota). The elite group of 354 students from all over California was split among three choirs: women’s, men’s, and mixed. Their program included the premiere of new choral music commissioned especially for this performance.

Principal organizers for this event include former CVHS choir directors Shirley Nute and Tammi Alderman.
