Christmas Stories From Family Memories

When I was still in Elementary school maybe about 8 years old, daddy was working down South. { Never mind, Wallace]. One Christmas Eve, it was cold and crisp and the moon was shining. Mama ask me to go with her somewhere. We were living on the Meadors ' place. I was so excited because it was the night that Santa came and mama had to go somewhere and she ask me to go with her. I ask her where we were going and she didn't say much but I was just excited that she ask me. Everyone wondered where we were going but no one knew. As we walked down the road in the cold . only the moon lite up the way so we had to stay in the ruts. All of a sudden , Mama said I need to tell you something. " My ears perked up. I was the oldest and I was going to get a secret. Mama said "THERE IS NO SANTA CLAUS" I ask her to repeat it because I didn't hear her right. She repeated it and told me that since I was the oldest, she needed me to help her with the other kids stuff because she could not carry it alone. We went to Mr Stephen's little log cabin and a cotton sack full of stuff was hidden there. As we continued our walk, my world fell apart. I went through a lot of emotional feelings. All of a sudden, I envied my siblings because they still believed in Santa Claus. We took the bag home and left it outside until the others fell asleep. I helped mama fill each sack with an orange, an apple, some raisins, nuts and fire crackers. I doubt I slept that night . The next morning, I watched the sheer happiness on everyone's face as they opened their sack and brought out goodies. My sack didn't mean a thing to me because, I knew there was NO SANTA CLAUS. Submitted by Jean

I recall Santa came to our house when we were still awake and he wanted us to sit on his lap. He did not have on gloves and I recognized Sam Williams' hands, and the way he talked.

One Christmas Eve, James and I were told that Santa would not come if we were still awake so we filled the fireplace with wood such that when we went outside we could see the flame above the top of the chimney. We looked at each other and smiled and thought, “If he comes down that chimney tonight he is going to wake us.” We woke the next morning and had the same thing that Jean described, fire crackers, apples, oranges, candy and raisins. We had numerous fruit trees within 50 yards of the house so I am not sure why this was a treat but we were excited.

As for Jean going shopping with mamma while Daddy worked in Southern Louisiana, no comments! I am a living witness that miracles do happen! Submitted by Wallace

Haynesville claims Louisiana Class 1A state football championship
Trey Iles, December 12, 2009 5:23 p.m.

Haynesville's B'Air McGee ran 21 yards for a touchdown with 2:00 left in the third quarter and the Golden Tornado defense stopped a late South Plaquemines drive to give Haynesville (13-2) a 19-12 victory in the Class 1A state championship on Saturday in the Superdome.
The loss kept South Plaquemines (12-3) from winning its third straight 1A state championship.
Trailing 19-12 with 3:54 left to play, South Plaquemines drove from its 32 to the Haynesville 9 and faced third-and-3. But Hurricanes running back Mike Barthelemy was tackled for a 5-yard loss and South Plaquemines was then penalized for a false start.
On fourth-and-13 at the Haynesville 19, South Plaquemines quarterback Eric Ragas' pass was intercepted with 23 seconds left to secure the victory for Haynesville.
South Plaquemines had more penalty yards (149) than it did offensive yards (126). The Hurricanes were flagged 17 times in the game. They also committed five turnovers, including three interceptions.
Haynesville was held to 200 yards on offense.

Family Reunion

It has been brought to my attention that we have decided where we want to have a Family Reunion but that is where it stopped, we don’t have any more details and this year is almost over. Some feel, including me, that we would need to have a detailed plan, now, in order to have a successful reunion in 2010 and that we should put a Planning Team together and plan for 2011 thereby allowing everyone time to schedule for a planned date. Have I used PLAN too much?

If you have comments on this please send them to the Bellgram so that all can see what you think!!!!!

You don't have to love horses or horse racing to appreciate this one. This shows that it's not where you start out, but where you finish that matters. Watch #4, jockey in green hat, green shirt with pink. Horse blanket is yellow. Meet Zenyatta!

History was made since she is the first female to ever win The Breeder's Cup.

Be Safe - H1N1 Flu Tips

Prevent H1N1 Flu - Good Advice The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions.
While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps can be practiced 1. Gargle twice a day with warm salt water or Listerine. *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive, and powerful preventative method. 2. Blow the nose hard once a day and swab both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population. 3. Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption. 4. Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can. Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.

A Word From Wallace!

This is a Word that I received for me on 10/03/09 from my Father. I believe there is someone on the Gram List that need to know this; to know that He lives, He speaks and He loves.

Wallace

I knew you before time began. I know how many hairs are on your head. Like parent, like child, you’re created in My image. I have plans for you. I’ve also given you the ‘gifts’ needed to fulfill them: and what I give, nobody can take away. But don’t neglect them; exercise them, and stir them up daily. Rest assured, I’ve started a good work in you and I’m going to finish it. I always complete what I begin. My Work concerning you is forever settled, and My commitment to you is unending. In this life you will have challenges, but cheer up; I’ve robbed Satan of his power to control you and the world of its power to destroy you. When you’re in trouble remember, I’m present to help. Give Me your burdens and I will sustain you. When you’re stressed out and worn down by the pressures of life, lean on Me. I will be your rock, your fortress, your deliverer and your strength. Even though you fail from time to time, you won’t be discarded because I am upholding you. But a word of caution: don’t take advice from those who are spiritually blind and don’t hang out with skeptics. Delight yourself in My Word and like a big oak tree growing by a river, you’ll prosper in all you do. I’d love to hear back from you.

Family Reunion 2010

I thought this would be a good time to check and see who's still interested in the Family Reunion in 2010 in Los Angeles. I will put up a poll for the rest of the month. I will also post info on lodging and sites for the LA area. Those in Southern Cali please advise at anytime. Thanks -Rikki

Message From Jean!!

Dear Siblings--I take this opportunity to say Thank You for the Plaque and the kind words. I was not expecting it and I am sorry that I could not be in San Francisco with the group. As most of you know, I love being with family but as Wallace said, "One only get one 50th anniversary." We went to Petey's restaurant [ Macaroni Grill ] in Cerritos and had a nice quiet day. I thank you all for the kind words and I will always try to be the type of Matriarch that you all gave me credit for. I also thank those of you who sent congratulations for our Anniversary. Your kind words meant a lot to us. As we move ahead on the next part of our lives, we hope that all of you will be happy and healthy and may God Bless. Chris and Jean
