RikkiNote: Information taken from wikipedia has been known to include errors at times. I read everything and decide if I think it's correct before posting.
Rikkinote: In case you didn’t know, Summerfield High School (Glen, Tony & I went there) as far as I know has never had a football team. During the years we attended, there was no prom. The school, however was well known for its academics. Every year Summerfield students attended the rally at Louisiana Tech and we always ended up going to state. Glen and I both represented our school at the Louisiana State District Literary Rally. Glen placed 1st place in Spelling. I didn’t place in Clerical Practice, but I told everyone I was sure I came in 6th :). There’s only 5 places. The other area we were well known for was great basketball. We also went to state each year in this area. We were a small school with a strict principal and teachers so it was pretty exciting when we had to play the rowdy schools. They would want to fight after we beat them, but we did our dominating on the score board. Since about 1969, the Claiborne Parish School Board has been headed by a Summerfield alumnus. The superintendent has continually been a former Summerfield principal. At this time it is a former Summerfield student, Janice Kennedy Williams (Brodie & Ann’s daughter) from Mt. Sinai. To top it off, the sheriff of Claiborne Parish is Ken Bailey who was my classmate. I love to joke with Wayne that Homer (which is where he’s from and the parish seat) and the parish could not make it without us. Holla! :)
